Cause Babies Don't Cry when Born

Hearing the crying of the baby during labor takes place is one of the happiest moments for the mother. But in some circumstances, babies can not cry when born you know, Mother. What are the causes? Check out the following review. When in the womb, the baby breathes through the umbilical cord that is connected directly to the mother's body. And after birth, the baby will use the lungs to breathe. Well, the baby's lungs will begin to expand to breathe when he cries when born.

Reasons Baby Doesn't Cry when Born

Normally, babies begin to breathe with lungs in the first ten seconds after birth. Currently, the baby is adapting to the environment outside the womb which is new to him. To help the development of the lungs, the baby will cry soon after birth. However, there are several conditions that cause a baby not to cry at birth, including:

Asphyxia

One of the causes of babies not crying at birth is asphyxia. This condition occurs when the baby does not get enough oxygen during the birth process. Some causes of asphyxia in newborns are:
  • Blockages and obstructions in the baby's airway, for example by mucus, amniotic fluid, and meconium.
  • Anemia when the baby is still in the womb. Anemia will cause a lack of supply of oxygen and nutrients to the tissues, including the respiratory system.
  • The delivery process lasted very long.
  • The placenta detaches from the uterus too quickly, so the baby no longer gets oxygen in the womb.
To assess the state of the newborn, the doctor will use the APGAR score. The APGAR score of 3-5 is an indicator of babies experiencing asphyxia. This is a dangerous condition, because if it does not get treatment, it can cause brain damage and death.

Premature birth

Babies are considered premature if born before the 37th week of gestational age. Premature babies are more at risk of experiencing various health complications after birth. One of them is interference with the lung organs. Normally, the development of the fetus's lungs is only perfect at the age of the womb above 36 weeks. Babies born prematurely before their lungs are fully formed can be late in crying or not cry at birth, because their lungs cannot expand properly.

Amniotic water poisoning

Normal amniotic fluid is clear or slightly yellowish. However, this liquid can turn green when mixed with meconium (feces or baby's first stool) which is dark green. Amniotic fluid has an important role, which is to help the movement of the fetus, maintain the temperature around the fetus, and protect the fetus from impact or injury. If the amniotic fluid is contaminated with meconium and is swallowed or inhaled by the fetus, infection can occur in the fetal airways and lungs. This condition can cause the baby not to cry at birth.

Mothers Medical Conditions Can Cause Baby Does Not Cry at Birth

In addition to the baby's medical condition, the mother's health condition can also contribute to causing the baby not to cry at birth, for example:

Preeclampsia

Preeclampsia is a pregnancy complication characterized by hypertension (high blood pressure) and signs of damage to organs, such as the kidneys. Preeclampsia requires immediate medical attention, because it risks developing eclampsia which is dangerous for both the mother and fetus. Preeclampsia can inhibit blood flow to the placenta which causes the fetus to lack oxygen and nutrients. If this happens, the baby may not cry at birth.

Diabetes during pregnancy

Diabetes during pregnancy is also known as gestational diabetes. In this condition, the body of a pregnant woman is unable to control the level of sugar in the blood, so the blood sugar level becomes high. High blood sugar levels in the body of pregnant women can harm the fetus. One of the dangers is causing respiratory distress in the baby which makes the baby not cry when born.

Taking certain medicines

Certain drugs, narcotics (such as cannabis and heroin), herbal medicines that are not yet clearly useful, drinks containing alcohol or caffeine, and ingredients used in aerosol form drugs can also cause health problems in the fetus, including the respiratory system. That is why, Mother is recommended to consult with your doctor before taking any drugs or supplements during pregnancy. The baby does not cry at birth is not a normal condition and needs to get immediate assistance in the form of resuscitation by the doctor. To prevent this, Mother needs to carry out routine pregnancy checks to the obstetrician, so that the condition of your child can be monitored properly.
